I could only imagine what kind of reaction the man would expect from me bringing back the name Eli James. I wasn't ready for that name ever to come up again except when people would associate me with him in the past. The twinkle in his eye when he asked that question seemed just odd to me. There was something odd about the way he just looked when he brought up that name and I wasn't sure what to think. Did he know Eli had been struck down by the now fallen New World Order, and been claimed to be dead by his family? Is Eli really alive and he brought this man to me for another mind fuck? To be honest I had no idea what card this man was about to reveal. Maybe it was just going to be a shitty three of diamonds that doesn't mean much without a collection two, four, five, and six. He had a full house, or royal flush, in his hand and was ready to lay it out on the table to see my utter shocked face. His white teeth were giving off a glare that told me he knew about the passing, or rumors of the passing, regarding Eli but he knew something more. What was even more troubling to me is why does he care to talk about Eli when he wants to help me? I'm not Eli. I don't even know what my feelings are anymore towards the man. I guess I honestly had no way to respond except with my eyes wide open and my mouth froze in shock. I must have looked like a young boy seeing his first pair of tits.
He refused to change the subject. He refused to even mutter anything after the name Eli James. No. He waited and waited for my reaction. When I gave nothing but a shocked appearance, he just watched my every move and waited some more until I could speak. I don't know how long it was before I ever said anything but it felt like hours. Two men playing a staring contest. One with a smile that would have ladies shiver with excitement. The other with a look of "hey everyone, I pissed in my pants" with the hottest lady witnessing it. Two different looks and a odd moment of silence.
After what seemed like hours of this fun little game... it all changed with a familiar voice and words that followed...
"Hey man, hehehe..."
Goosebumps. I don't know how else to describe what happened when I heard that southern raspy voice again. It was like he entered the room behind me to surprise me. Lacey didn't move, nor did the little pretty boy. I turned quickly to see what he looked like and as I turned around I saw what I didn't expect ...
Nothing. No one. Just a door closed and no one else in the room. Was I going crazy? Hearing Eli's voice in my head, yet it sounded so clear as if he were right beside me.
"Elisha? What's wrong?"
He spoke with the smile never leaving his face. I think he knew what I heard, or who I heard. He was waiting for me to acknowledge the name he asked about. Maybe I'm thinking too much into this whole questioning about Eli. It's no secret what happened with me and Eli. I stood by him and he vanished, or passed away. So what's the big deal about him asking me about Eli James?
"You look like you heard someone? Are you alright? You haven't replied to my question about Eli James."
"L-Last I h-h-heard he died."
"That's sad. Weren't you two close?"
"N-No. L-L-Long s-stor-stor-story."
"Tell me the story. I have time."
Lacey helped when she could. She filled in some places I couldn't. When we both knew about something, she would just finish the sentences since I still had the stuttering. I don't like revisiting too much of what happened because I don't see a point. He wanted to know, and thought he could help, so we told him. I started at the beginning with my dealings with Wallace Witasick as Eric Rex ... Knightmask ... all the way to Eli's 'working' my friends and the barn. I don't remember much anymore about the story with Eric Rex, Wallace, Knightmask, and the orphan deal. It's really a blur now but Lacey still remembered most of it. I am slowly losing my memories of past and gaining new ones. It's difficult to explain to anyone but I guess in time everything will be understood to a degree.
Lacey started to finish off the story that had happened the last few months. I zoned out. All I could think about was the taste of rabbit and deer in my mouth. I was so hungry. The man tried to offer me peanut butter, crackers, and fruit. I want meat. I want fresh meat with lifeblood still attached. I've tasted a few people in my day. I never actually ate a person but have tasted their blood and flesh a little. It was quite similar to that of a deer, except not as hairy. Maybe I should do everyone a favor and kill this man. Not only would I probably help people from looking at his persuasive face, but I wouldn't be hungry anymore. It seems too right not to do it. It would be a sin, as Eli would say, not to do this. Him just listening isn't helping me, Lacey, or anyone else.
Lacey starts to wrap up the story and I'm about to wrap up my hunger. Finally. That little squirrel I ate on the train wasn't enough to satisfy me. He should've known since he supposedly knows us.
I stand off and getting, oh-so-close, to ending this chatter with a feast ... Lacey finishes the story to where we are and then ...
"What if I were to tell you Eli's not dead?" Out of curiosity, what would you both think?
Eli is either dead, or raped all our minds leading us to think he was. Lacey finally showed a response appropriate to her age instead of the evil girl she has become. Almost like a pout face of disbelief. Her bottom lip got fat. She didn't look angry but seemed like someone were questioning your entire life. It was a mixture of sadness and disbelief. She looked at me to see how I was reacting, but before we could speak or try to read each other ..
"Father, daughter? Or mother, son? I've heard it said both ways. Which is it?"
Lacey didn't miss beat the way her facial expression changed. Her attention ignored that I was in the room and went straight to the man asking the question. All I could do is watch.
"I see I have your attention Lacey. Are you Elisha's mother or daughter?"
"Why do you want to know? We done told you about our story."
"Lacey. I'm here to help you both, but if you don't let me in your world I'll only be outside looking in. I must be living in your world."
"No one stays in our world very long and lasts. You either become us or stop existing... expire."
"You mean die?"
"Uh huh. You either become like us or die. No one stays the same mister. I'll leave that choice up to you if you want to go on an adventure."
"I'd love to go on this adventure. I'm quite certain I can handle it if you can, little girl."
"Can't say I didn't warn ya."
"No need to warn. I'm sure I can handle it. I've talked to worse off people."
"That's because they were fixable. That's because they were hiding behind issues. We ain't hiding behind any issue. This is who we are."
"Come in."
No one was knocking. Who was he talking to?
A very large and muscular man walks in. His eyes water as he looks at Lacey.
Lacey recognized him. It took me a few moments to do so, but my mind slowly gathered all the pieces and I realized it was Victor. I had used Victor'e muscle when I was Eric Rex to get some dirty work done in the XWF and other places. I used the Russian because he had a strong compassion for orphans and he helped me try to end Wallace. Lacey and Victor had a strong bond at one point until Eli came in and placed a wedge between everyone I had associated myself with to create me. One look at Victor would send you off running away. His long black and bushy beard ... all the tattoos and piercings ... his dress ... everything about him said "look at me funny and I'll fuck you up". In a sense he was that way, especially when someone would complain about kids or more specifically orphans.
Victor got a glimpse of what had happened to the innocent girl he once knew and had a connection to. The little girl with the smile and skipped to show her happiness into this dark monster with evil hidden behind her eyes. The two just had a starring moment while silence entered the room. As I panned between the two I noticed Lacey's eyes were watering up. I haven't seen that girl break a tear since pre-Eli times. It's been almost an entire calendar year since she had even shown some type of emotion of compassion.
How did this man get a hold of Victor? Do they know each other? My only thought I could conjure up was the possibility of a common denominator: Eli James.
"Lacey?"
"Heya Victor."
"What... What Happened?"
His head turned slightly and now we were looking at each other. I'm not sure he really knew who I was. He had a puzzling look on his face but I think when he had a chance to look into my eyes he would know it was me. Kind of. I decided to walk up to Victor. If he wanted to fight, I was okay with that. I'm still hungry and he has more meat on him than this other putts. I'm not sure what came over me, but as I walked up to face Victor I started to growl a little under my breath.. like an estranged dog ready to attack. Maybe something in the past sparked an emotion of anger... since he did leave us when Eli was working us all.
Maybe he was the reason I had become this evil monster and why Lacey had become dark. Maybe this is why this doctor, or whoever he is, brought him here. Victor could be the key to fix everything.
Maybe this is fate?
