Duplicate finishers, earning the rights to your finisher, etc... - "Loverboy" Vinnie Lane - 01-02-2014

Random idea I had. I know there are a lot of wrestling finishers that are very popular and we do tend to get some people sharing finishing moves. I was wondering if you guys think we should try to crack down on that?

For instance, if two people have the same finishing move we might book them against each other with the winner retaining the move and the loser needing to choose a new move. Then, if the new move that person chooses also matches somebody else, a match is booked between them with the winner keeping THAT move by whatever custom name they want to call it.

Things like the Stunner, RKO, Pedigree, Superkick and any other finishers we see get used a lot could make this all very interesting. It could be like a side program that is ongoing but moves aside when something more important is going on. Basically the match would go on until one of the people can WIN with the move in question and then the loser can never use it again.

Does this sound like something that could be fun? I see it being a very strong achievement to be able to win the rights to your move instead of just picking one that other people already have. I also think it would open up a LOT of doors for the people who lose, and possibly even give them MORE ammunition than the people who win because then they have a whole storyline backing up why they have to learn and master a NEW move now. The right RPer could turn that into a week's worth of character development and bring the house down.

Thoughts?

OK so what do you do if someone comes in playing say a Brock Lesnar fake and someone else who has been here a year uses the F5 as a finisher? Also there are different variations of everything and most people rename them to their own move anyways, I mean who doesnt use the RKO these days? The Ace Crusher is like move number one on the list for a characters explosive out of nowhere move. Also it would mean established players having to change their characters and stuff

A match is booked and the winner keeps the F5. If the person playing Brock Lesnar (a real wrestler, which is HARDER to win with here because you can't just be a carbon copy) somehow can win and earn the right to keep that move, then he deserves it and the long-standing veteran should be a solid enough player that they can go with the flow and pick a new move.

We probably wouldn't force anybody into a match like this. It would be more of an ongoing option that people can choose to challenge somebody for. We (staff) would not act like police men and look for duplicate moves. Instead, it would be up to you guys to spot somebody using your move and issue the challenge, and so forth. I think the feeling of winning with your finishing move after you've established that you're the best one doing that move, can actually be much greater than just winning the match. There is a lot of payoff to something like this because those who accomplish a win would feel very proud of their accomplishment, and those who lose would have a LOT of storyline to work with now as they change up their move.

Exactly my point and the #1 move that made me come up with this. How many RKOs do you see happening on Monday Night Raw and who are they coming from? The only thing even close that I can remember happening on Raw was when DDP showed up and hit the Diamond Cutter on Heath Slater a while back. Aside from that, the Ace Crusher variations are never represented in professional wrestling as something multiple people use and if they all did start using it, it would dilute it to no longer being considered a wrestling finisher in many peoples eyes.

I for one think this is a brilliant idea and as a veteran in this i've had The Groupie Killer (Superkick) as my finisher ever since Scott Charlotte was created even before the XWF, but i'd be willing to put that claim up. It really makes things interesting story wise and if you are a vet who truly believes they deserve the move then you should be able to put it up for grabs. I've even adopted a secondary finisher the last year which is the Osaka Street Cutter, renamed South Tryon Street Cutter so if ever the case may be that i do not want the superkick or with what this post specifies I were to lose it I'd have my secondary, but i love having to learn something totally new. Helps with the evolution of things. Keeps the options open.

Will all the Rock Bottoms please stand up, please stand up, please stand up.

Love the idea, personally for me that is why I try to use something that is out of the ordinary that most people would not think twice to use, that way I wouldn't have a Andrew Morrison situation again where him and I used the same finisher.

My biggest problem for a while was getting music that no-one else would think of >.<

But yes, I am all for it and makes for originality.

IE: Have one guy doing the Pedigree as his finisher and not 50 other men.

Also like you said, would make for some excellent work for the other guys who lose the rights to the finisher. Smile

well i guess i have to take out the gilmour cutter since its basically a high impact RKO/Diamond Cutter

and the KILLSWITCH cannot be used because it is a GTS/RKO combo Wink

Oh shit I didn't realize you were going to be doing this from an In character point of view, ok yeah I'm down for that all though both my finishers are made up in my own head so I wouldn't be effected although I'm assuming signature maneuvers will still be fair game? I don't wanna lose my angle cutter it my faveourite part of my Arsenal, some of the coolest shit I have read in my matches have been the way people have found to hit it, I had a match a week ago where a dude had me leap over someones head off the top turnbuckle and drag him down into an ace crusher through a table. There needs to be a specific line drawn on what people can go after you for or it would get confusing. Having the super kick as finisher yes but name a wrestler who doesn't use it now just as a regular move

I have a cradle fishermans neck breaker (shockwave) and a praying mantis bomb (game over) as well as the full Nelson submission anyone have similar? I would be willing to change any except shock wave - had that finisher for over 5 years

i prly wont like it becauce my character had used the same finisher since i created him 10 years ago

I'm guessing you want to enforce this as a requirement and not an option, right? Otherwise, if it were optional, people could just challenge each other with the finisher stipulation in place.

I think enforcing unique finishers could be good, but I think there would be couple of potential problems:

-How would you deal with the one hit wonders who come in, take the finisher away, and then bounce two weeks later? I think it would be pretty messed up if a long term member loses something to someone who's two weeks into the fed and ends up flaking.

-Our roster section isn't organized that well, and would be difficult for new members to tell if something is taken or not.

-There are several people who I noticed have finishers in their standard ten moves list. So either adding the move to your standard list of moves could be a way around the "lose your finisher" thing, or it creates a situation where you have to bar certain moves from people's lists.

Honestly I think using someone elses finisher, like the move and name;.. is a bit disrespectful. I mean by all means, use a finisher that someone else has.. just call it something different that works for your character. I mean, Ally's moves have been like that since 1999. I wouldn't walk over and steal say Nova's moves or something like that, out of my respect for him or anyone else as a writer. To use someone elses move's to me is like stealing their work.

Duplicate finishers, earning the rights to your finisher, etc... - Hunter Payne - 01-02-2014

I think if both parties agree to a match with that stipulation then it's fine.

Otherwise, I don't see a big deal with multiple people having the same finishers.

If a person wants to separate from the pack then having a unique finisher makes sense.

The Payneful Bottom is the same thing as John Madison's Rebellion (though I like my finisher name better).

So I decided to change it myself. Into the flipping Rock Bottom that no efedder seems to have.

Better right?

So yeah... Anyway, nobody steal my shit!

Lol.

Just Kidding.

For what's it's worth, I really never thought that much into people copyrighting wrestling moves for themselves.

The only two moves I will never change are the Green Dream (Crossface Chickenwing) and the Foleyplex (Fisherman Suplex). The Green Dream has been around since Day 1 with Green and the Foleyplex has been with Foley Anderson since Day 1 so it would be a cold day in hell before I would change those two moves.
