Surreal - Part 3 - Smoke - 09-16-2013

Daniel walks onto his bus, which he has been waiting for for quite a while. In fact he was pretty sure it was late. Freaking timetables, man, what's the point of even having them!?

He pays his fare and then walks down gangway. The bus is pretty jammed, although it should've been suspected, considering that it's roughly about midday. It's filled with the usual commuters about this time of day, namely a few business men, a couple of elderly women, a two women gossiping loudly and a mother with her kid in about the middle row.

The kid looks up at Daniel as he passes. Regardless of whether or not the boy knew who Daniel was, Dan gave a smile and a slight nod and the bus lurched forward, forcing him to grip the handlebar of the boy's seat tightly in response. The boy jumps a little but doesn't seem startled. His mother looks at Daniel for a couple of seconds, then back down to his fist on the metal bar, before turning her child away.

The bus is now moving steadily, and as such, Daniel lets go of the seat and walks the rest of the way to take a seat near the back. He would've taken the backseat but there was a hobo sleeping on it that he didn't see before. Tough luck, he guessed.

He watches the world go by outside of the window to his left, twiddling his thumbs impatiently, as if it would speed the ride up. Out of the corner of his eye, he can see the kid looking at him, peering at him with eyes that are lined with white. Daniel glances and smirks at him for a second to acknowledge and dismiss him, turning his attention to out of the glossy window afterward. But he could tell the kid kept looking.

Daniel is not in the best state, that could easily be told. It isn't long after his trip to the arena, and his interview with Steve. This is actually the bus-ride home from that encounter. His clothes were dirty, his hair a mess, and his eyes rimmed in shadow and red in fatigue. He felt more tired than he had in his entire life. Right now he just wanted to go to bed, he didn't care what he dreamed about, or if there was any other matter. Bedtime is now.

But that kid. His eyes wide like a bug on heroine. He's going to be a pain in the ass, that's for sure. Daniel hopes the parent and child get off before him, and that they didn't leave the same stop as him, since he's not exactly the kind of sleepy person that can keep a lid on things.
