Touching Base - Thaddeus Duke - 12-18-2024

First and foremost, I just wanted to acknowledge the fact in an ooc setting that we're growing fairly rapidly and for all you new faces out there, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.  I know for some, these forums can be a little confusing.

Secondly, I'm not gonna point fingers at anyone specifically but in case people stumble upon it, I don't want anyone coming through or new to us to think that we don't take ooc stuff seriously.  I won't speak on past regimes or how they handled that sort of thing, because I don't honestly know how they handled them when they did pop up.  This is a pretty tight knit group here and I think that's true for most feds.  But sometimes, those things do pop up.  While we're not necessarily going to take action in a public setting, we do 100% take it seriously.  I do not tolerate, and I've directed other staff to also not tolerate it. Not in any posts, IC or otherwise, on the forum and not in the discord server.  People develop beef sometimes and I get that, just keep it away from the XWF.  You're all more than welcome to hate each other privately.

Moving on from that, I wanted to sort of shed some light on how things operate behind the scenes here in the current regime.  When Theo first quit on Relentless weekend, the Anarchy GM took a LOA also.  Which meant that as a staff... it was two of us.  Me and Peter Principle.  Yes, Lane is around but very sparingly.  He has helped us out with a few things but I personally prefer to leave him on the sidelines especially knowing what he does for a living and how it is in that business this time of year.

That said, Atticus Gold who has always helped us out with graphic work and some match writing has stepped up and taken on a larger role to help out.  Lane also added Bashmaster as the new Anarchy GM.  Liam Desmond, former GM has also stepped up to help us out in match writing.  Additionally, and perhaps more importantly, we've added another judge in the form of ALIAS.

To me, during my efed career I never cared that much about whether I won or lost, but I did care that it was the right call.  I don't say this as any sort of indictment of Theo or how he operated because I didn't talk to him much about how he went about judgments.  What I do know is that I always thought more eyes and differing opinions were better than fewer eyes and like opinions.  More often than not, there are at least 2 sets of eyes on any match.  A lot of times we differ on opinions in certain areas of the rubric but ultimately agree on the final outcome, but not always.  In those instances, we 100% get a 3rd set of eyes on the work.  While I'll never claim that we get it 100% right 100% of the time, I will say that we work hard to make sure we're as sure as we can be.

I'm kind of a hands on guy and as such, we joke as a staff about me being a fascist dictator, but that's not the case.  Nearly everything that comes up whether it's a ppv or a title Contender is decided through a staff discussion.  It's important to me to be receptive to others ideas and it's important to me to be approachable and non-elusive.  I do take a hamds on approach in some regard to the UNI picture but it's more or less me putting the players in a room and letting them figure out how to get from ppv to ppv.  I don't interfere much in that regard unless I feel like I see something others aren't or if I have an alternative idea that might interest them.

Lastly, the survival of the XWF is and always will be my number one priority.  Which is why even before i came back here behind the scenes, i worked diligently with Theo to duscuss and implement changes that would attract new players to our corner of the efed-verse.

Whether you love Thad as a character or hate him, remember, he's not real.  He's just a character I play on the interwebs with all my frenz. Contrary to some peoples ooc opinions that have surfaced over the last few months, Thads IC relationships have zero bearing on what decisions Thads handler and the staff make ooc concerning the XWF.

I love this unpaid job.  While I personally hate running shows, I do love making plans, I love helping see those plans through to fruition.  I love helping others realize their efed dreams.  I love recruiting.  I love seeing XWF legends stop by for a cup of coffee even if they don't necessarily like me much.  I love the game.  I love the XWF.

I realize this was probably a bit long winded, but there were a lot of things that I wanted to bring up and shed some light on because i take this role as de facto fedhead (i do not own the XWF) very seriously.  Everyone being content and satisfied is probably an impossible dream, but i damn sure try like hell and i know the staff does too.  And I don't want anyone to ever think that me and staff are somehow unapproachable because we're the exact opposite.  While I can't promise we'll have every answer to every question, discussion is never a bad thing.

We've grown quite a lot this year, especially since Relentless.  I'm proud of that, but getting you all here is only part of the equation.  Whether you've been here 10 years or 10 hours, you're all important to us.

P.S. this was written on mobile so ignore the typos.

Thanks for all you do and for keeping this place alive. I know I've been gone for a long time, but it was cool to come back, look through the archives and then also realize that the place is currently thriving as well. I'm excited to be a part of it all.
