The Hero Behind the Mask - THE ATOMIC BAT - Issue #4 - The Atomic Bat - 04-20-2023 The sound of a helicopter can be heard in the background as the camera zooms in on the top of a skyscraper in the middle of the city. We see Bama T, the co-host of Anarchy, standing on the rooftop, microphone in hand, and a frumpy frown on his face. He had been asked by The Atomic Bat to meet her here for an interview, and he couldn't understand why. The wind was blowing, making his hair stand up in every direction. It was night, and the city skyline was the perfect backdrop for the interview. Suddenly, Atomic Bat appeared out of nowhere, landing gracefully on the roof from somewhere above. She wore her signature mask, and her cape billowed in the wind. Bama was taken aback by her entrance, but quickly regained his composure. "Atomic Bat, what's the meaning of this, baby? Why couldn't we do this in the studio like normal people?" Bama asked, his annoyance evident in his tone. Atomic Bat stared at him, her eyes shining with intensity. "Bama, I requested this location because I want people to see that Anarchy is not just a wrestling ring. It's the city streets too. This is where I fight for justice every day, and it's where I will continue to fight, both inside and outside the ring." Bama rolled his eyes. "Right, right. So, let's talk about your upcoming number-one contendership match. You're going up against Molly Barnes and Chelsea LeClair. Two tough opponents. What makes you think you can come out on top?" Atomic Bat straightened her back, looking Bama in the eye. "Bama, in singles competition, I'm undefeated. I've beaten some of the toughest wrestlers in this league, and I'm not afraid of anyone. Molly Barnes and Chelsea LeClair may be tough, but they don't have the determination that I have. I proved that last Anarchy when I submitted Molly Barnes, and Chelsea LeClair will clearly see the uphill battle in store for her the minute she begins researching her next science project. I can not speak to the driving forces behind these women, but I can speak to mine. I watched as a true hero was brought to her knees by competitors who were driven by greed and jealousy. It sickened me to see such vile acts being committed in our ring. As a hero, it is my responsibility to protect this sport and ensure that it remains a place of honor, respect, and fairness.” “Ruby fought with every ounce of strength she had, but it wasn't enough to overcome the odds against her. It's a shame that her hard work and dedication was undermined by those who seek to cheat their way to the top.” “But I refuse to let that happen to me. I refuse to let my opponents drag me down to their level, and I refuse to allow the same scum to sit atop this brand and reap that position's benefits.” “That's why I'm going into this triple threat match with a clear mind and a determination to succeed. I know that Molly Barnes and Chelsea LeClair are tough opponents, but I'm not going to let that stop me. I'm going to fight with all my heart and soul, and I will come out on top.” “Because that's what a hero does. A hero stands up for what's right, even when the odds are against them. A hero fights for justice and fairness, even when others seek to cheat and manipulate.” “So come Thursday Night Anarchy, I'm going to take the first step towards brand stability when I show the world that heroes still exist in this sport, and that they can still succeed in the face of adversity. And when I do, I'll be one step closer to achieving my ultimate goal: cleaning up the streets and the XWF, and making this sport a place of true honor and respect." Bama smirked. "Speaking of cleaning up, why not come clean about your identity? People have been wondering for months who you really are, baby. Are you afraid that revealing your identity will hurt your image or something?" The Atomic Bat didn't falter. "Bama, my identity is not important. What's important is what I stand for. I'm a hero. I fight for what's right, and I don't need people to know who I am to do that.” Bama rolled his eyes and chuckled. Bama: "Oh, spare me the hero talk, baby. You wear a mask, for crying out loud. Who are you really?" Atomic Bat doesn't flinch. Atomic Bat: "My identity is a secret, Bama. It's not about who I am, it's about what I do.” Bama: “You know, a lot of people are beginning to speculate on who you are. Do you know what they’re saying?” Atomic Bat remained composed, even as Bama tried to rattle her. Atomic Bat: "I'm aware of the rumors, Bama. But let me be clear: my identity is not up for debate. I wear this mask to protect my loved ones and to focus solely on the work that needs to be done. As a hero, my actions speak for themselves, and that's all that matters." Bama shrugged. "Suit yourself, baby. But I'm sure the fans would love to know who their hero really is." Atomic Bat looked straight into the camera, her voice unwavering. Atomic Bat: "To the fans watching at home, I want you to know that I'm just like you. I'm someone who believes in doing what's right, no matter the cost. I may wear a mask, but I assure you, my heart is in the right place. And if my actions can inspire just one person to stand up for what's right, then my mission is accomplished." Bama seemed satisfied-enough with her answer and wrapped up the interview, but Atomic Bat remained on the rooftop, looking out at the city skyline. She knew that her mission was far from over, but she was determined to keep fighting, no matter the cost. |
