To Captains Match or Not To Captains Match - Theo Pryce - 03-28-2023
Hi everyone.
With War Games quickly approaching I wanted to toss out the idea of having a Captains Match and what that means and what it looks like.
In most years what we do is post a thread asking for people to opt in to the War Games PPV and if they would like to be considered as a Captain. We will then determine how many Captains we need based on the number of opt ins and then decide who gets to be a Captain. Usually we look at giving the roles to people who haven't done it before and if after we do that we still have a few more slots open then the GM team will discuss who they think is most deserving.
However this year we are going to do something a little different. After we close the opt in and determine who the potential Captains are we are going to ask each Captain to submit a short promo(word count to be determined) segment for Warfare that we will then add to the results. We will judge those promos to determine who is most fitting of being a Captain.
From there we can do one of two things and this is where the Captains match comes into place.
We can either do a random draw to see what the draft order will be IE: which Captain picks first, second etc. We could do it on a podcast similar to how we did the first March Madness draw so everyone can see it's done transparently.
Or, we could as we did two years ago maybe, have a Captains match in which the person who wins gets to decide whether they pick first, or pick last(as this is a snake draft) and then we slot everyone else in based on how they scored in the match.
So with that said I am going to create a poll and leave it up for a few days so we can decide how we want to proceed.

Yes we should but last place should get #2 pick.
You win the captains match you get first pick.
Everyone else is reverse ordered to ensure the bad captains aren't always leading the worst teams.
Competitive equity leads to less predictable final scores!

I agree with the idea of going in reverse order but I don't agree that being a "bad Captain" whatever that means, automatically equates to you having the worst teams. Especially since we've switched up how we determine the draft order over the years.
Also a reminder to cast a vote if you have not already, which, most of you have not.

A Bad captain is a captain who loses the captains match to TK for clarity
I'm js tho if you do poorly on the captains match you might need a higher draft pick to win it all
