Match of the Month (September 2019) - Atticus Gold - 09-30-2019

Last month people seemed to like the idea but not many people gave their thoughts. So trying again.

These 4 matches from Relentless stood out to me, if you feel any other matches deserve a mention please say so. Give match writers some love.

If you haven't already please vote for SOTM HERE.
RPOTM HERE.
And get those quotes in HERE.

Thank you.

Just want to be sure here - Is this strictly what we thought of the match action itself, but any RPing for the match and any actual preference of winner, etc... should be ignored for this? It's JUST the action/presentation of the match?

Yeah, just the match and action itself should be considered.

We feel RPers have RPOTM and SOTM as rewards for their efforts, MOTM is more recognizing the match writers and their hard work.

I'm also guessing we should be giving our reasons?

I voted for Main vs Soldier because I felt it really delivered that big fight feel when you take into account how the action all unfolded from the start, the commentary switch and surprise appearance by CCP taking over commentary with some great lines throughout, and how it was written in such a way where you can tell each character's roster page was examined in detail, even to the point of height and weight coming into play for some moves and spots. A lot of matches these days just feel a bit random and not very personalized but this was a fantastic display of how a match should feel and the story it should tell.

Good points Shane.

To me match writing is so variable it's hard to tell what is "better." I know when I write matches, I usually do it with the participants in mind as who I am trying to write for. So I try to do things in there that I think they will like. I also just get real weird with it sometimes because I'm a strange person. If the people IN the match like it, I consider it a success.

I thought the tag match writing was great. It started with basic moves and escalated to big weapon spots and crazy bumps. It had a great build to a great conclusion.
The main event was really good but the conclusion was a little too WCW for me. Too over-booked for my liking.

Voted for the match I as in. So much fun to read and a really great portrayal of Lux's fighting style.

I picked the match I had the most fun reading. That would be Cent vs Tony.

Main v soldier told a good story

re:Match of the Month (September 2019) - B.O.B. D - 09-30-2019

I voted for Other for Big D vs Mastermind vs Gilly from Warfare. You can call me biased all you'd like(although it wasn't ME who wrote the match) but the whole time I read that match, it just felt like wrestling. A guy trying to benefit his friend, two guys being screwed over by the special ref, only to have justice reign down in the form of Robert Main interfering. The match set forward more story for multiple guys and it was a fun read. Result wasn't too bad, either. Lol
