Clarification - "Loverboy" Vinnie Lane - 09-14-2019

It's been brought to my attention that there's some speculation that perhaps the things I say or do here are taken differently or carry a different "weight" than others, or that certain parties may take things I say OOC or IC more "personally" and overreact because they panic and aren't sure how to handle it. From what I'm told, the speculation that this may be happening is primarily because I'm a former owner and still using the former owner account/character I guess?

While I'm not aware of any confusion being brought directly TO my attention by a confused party, I wanted to just make sure any speculation from others who think there's confusion among any third parties can be laid to rest. In other words, people say to me they think OTHER people react certain ways to me that they maybe shouldn't...? I dunno, I'm a bit confused by it too. lol Anyway, let's clear it all up!

Yes, I'm a former owner. Yes, Shane is that former owner character. Does that mean when Shane talks IC (gold font) anyone should take it personally or overreact? No. If I'm IC, I am always coding my font golden and am speaking IC no matter WHAT the content of the text is.

Next up, is there any reason to overreact or worry if I say something in an OOC section that might be taken as a sarcastic joke or even just a friendly jab? No, don't worry about it. It's the same as if any other RPer joked with you or poked fun at you, or decided to sarcastically make light of a situation. Play along or ignore it! Tell me to eat shit! Whatever feels natural. I'm not that bad of a guy and I'm not going to hurt you.

I also should point out that I will probably be posting some IC material in the VERY near future that goes against rules and boundaries I previously adhered to and used to aggressively enforce while I was owner. Yes, I'm finally going to embrace the seemingly increasingly popular "crossing OOC lines" while staying IC, but I need you ALL to remember I'm simply adapting and playing along with what others have been allowed and encouraged by the staff to do. DO NOT take it personally if it involves you. Play along. I'm sure we're all adult enough to mess with each other without going TOO far, and I know for a fact if it ever gets too far where everyone is going insane with 4th wall breakage then Vinnie Lane is more than capable of handling it.

So yes, hopefully that clears up any misconceptions about my place/role here. I'm just one of you guys, now! I'm here to have fun and I'm here to adapt and see if I can help change the game even further based on recent trends and shifts in guidelines.

Thanks for your time, you filthy animals.

re:Clarification - "Loverboy" Vinnie Lane - 09-14-2019

Thanks for the post Shane, I think it raises a couple good points.

First, to clarify, no one has actually "complained" or suggested something you said carried more weight than anyone else - that's more an assumption on my part based on reactions, etc. It's totally normal. Everyone knows who you are, unless they are brand new. You're a firebrand, a very powerful and present communicator, and, in a lot of cases, a touchy subject (as we saw with Cable, for instance - in which he was completely in the wrong, but the sentiment was still there).

I think people simply view you differently than they would any other roster member, and I don't think there's any way to prevent that. It will sort itself out in time, obviously.

As for the OOC. Myself and the GMs have talked a LOT about this over the last day or two. I think it's important to be careful there, because there is potential for IRL feelings to be hurt. Nobody should go into an RP thinking "oh man I am totally gonna go OOC here!" Some line blurring can be fine and acceptable, though, no doubt.

BUT, it's important to keep in mind it won't always score very well. In the examples we discussed recently, the scores were definitely affected negatively. There's no clear-cut "lose 5 points for doing this" rubric or anything like that, but think of it in terms of a judge reading an RP and just thinking, "well, that was a pretty lazy approach." Or "that doesn't make much sense in the scope of XWF." Was it permitted? Partially. Partially not. Did it score very well? Not at all.

Just wanted to make sure people realize there is a difference between "what's technically allowed" and "this is a good idea."

Makes sense. Yeah the thing I was going to post wouldn't be an RP for a match, so I wouldn't suffer anyway. lol Just a way to really jump on the bandwagon and see how well I can do the whole line blurring thing since for years I was so strongly against it. If I do end up posting it, it's just a reactionary piece where Shane is mentoring a new student and Shane is going along with the examples he's presenting to his student through quotes and taking the trend even further into extremes. Definitely risky territory based on my old views and pretty lengthy, but not really meant to go anywhere too crazy in the long run. It has to wait for Savage results since that'll play heavily into if/how it's done though. Brace yourselves! (watch, now I won't even post it lmao)

Luckily, I've been giving shit for 18 years. Generally, when he says something, I just do the opposite.

Now, if he says something, and James Raven says the opposite, then I'm in a pickle.

I think I just solved the energy crisis.
