Essentially through the Infamous Maori Land Wars of the 1800s the Maori pushed the famous British Army to the point where they had to either give up which they couldn't win or sign the 1840 Treaty of Waitangi where they let Maori keep their land, and save face.
After the successes in America and Australia, this truly made the great British Empire red faced.

As for the Aussies the British disrespected the Aborigines which put pressure on the Aussie white men to do the same and the results were catastrophic.
