Escaping the Demon Part #2

The demon Nightmare eventually released his grip from around my neck, I gasped and the oxygen began to refill my lungs. My breathing slowly returned to normal and I slowly made my way back to my feet. I could see that Nightmare had gone, the large wooden door was open, the thick snowfall distorted my vision but in the distance I could hear the dark harrowing sound of a werewolf being slaughtered. The demon must have sensed the wolf entering the castle grounds. I can only imagine what the werewolf was going through.

The pesky little ogre had disappeared from sight but the werewolf was hungry, he wanted is meal. He continued to stalk through the dense foliage of the Korakanag Jungle. Stopping to sniff the ground for the sent of the slimy little monster. He entered a clearing and stopped and rose onto his hind legs and gave a howl. It wasn't a call for help, he wanted this meal to himself, it was howl of anger, anger at himself for letting the Ogre go. He dropped back onto all fours and slowly turned and began to walk back into the jungle.

He stopped suddenly as he caught sight of something out of the corner of his eye. Was it his prey? He didn't turn his head in the direction the sound came from as he didn't want to scare what ever it was away, he needed to be careful and clever. He continued forward, plotting and planning in his head a route to make it around and attack the unsuspecting victim from behind.

Slowly.

Quietly.

As he past through the jungle he was being careful not to make a sound, he hadn't been this side of the clearing before but he did find an almost clear track which should lead him directly up to his prey and almost completely silently as the nearest tree or branch for him to accidentally rustle and alert the victim were a good 2 meters away. A clear run.

He slows to a stop when he spots his prey huddled in the foliage looking the wrong way. He could see it was the ogre he had already been chasing and it was looking out into the clearing he had been not ten minutes earlier. He continued to slowly creep up when suddenly the ogre darts off to the right as quick as a flash, something must have spooked him. The werewolf took flight after him.

These pesky ogres are agile little things and great climbers too, if the ogre got up into a tree there would be no meal tonight.

Only a few feet away now, it looks like he will be getting his meal after all. He was just about to pounce when a heavy weight landed on his back and he legs gave way under him causing his face to slam into the snow. Then there was a sharp pain in the back of his head before nothing.... just blackness.

Nightmare could see the werewolf running through the jungle he just had to time his attack right.

Go...

He launches himself out of his hiding place and onto the back of the werewolf causing it to stumble and fall to the ground. In one quick motion he pulls out his knife and stabs it into the back of the ware-wolfs head. The ogre has stopped and witnessed this but quickly ran off into the dense foliage when Nightmare looked like he was going to turn his attention to him.

That wasn't Nightmare's plan though, he had his meal, he didn't need the little slime ball, plus ogres taste horrible. Nightmare begins cutting chunks out of the werewolf. He removes his mask and begins to eat.

Back to Macbeth (The Apprentice)

I need to get out of this, but how.

The demon wont release me.

Think Chris, Think. There must be a way of stopping the demon.

Ever since we destroyed the order, the Nightmare had changed, he was no longer feeding me with lines about how I was to be his successor. He wouldn't admit it but the demise of the order at his hands had affected him more than he could have imagined and he blamed me. He seems to have these random switches in his head which when they went off he would be filled with rage and that is when he would try to kill me like earlier. I need to somehow stop him and escape but he overpowers me, he is an actual demon after all, I am still a person, a normal human person.

Maybe if I can get to the human's by the coast at the bottom of the mountain range... maybe they will put me on one of there boats and get me out of here. OK so it wont get me back to the normal world but I will be away from Nightmare, away from my nightmare.

It's useless though, the demon would catch me just like he did that wolf.

Wait... The Dark Gem...

I remember along time ago when I first arrived here, Nightmare had explained to me how this hole thing works. There is a stone which they call The Dark Gem, locked away in the castle. It is this gem that gives this world life. The order looked up to it like a god. If i destroy that gem, maybe, just maybe...

Everything will go back to the way it should be.

How though, how am I going to destroy it, I've never even seen it. All I know is it's hidden and locked away in the castle. I'll never find it, not in time anyway, It won't be long before the demon is back. Wait a minute I have an idea.

Macbeth walks back towards the castle, as he reaches the door he stops and takes the flaming torch from the left hand side of the door, he then walks to the other side and takes the torch from there before entering the castle.

As Nightmare sits in the jungle eating his meal a glow filled the sky behind him. He turned and that is when he could see it.

The flames completely engulfed the castle.

He quickly gets to his feet and takes flight as fast as he could but he already knew it was to late.

Bright white lights had appeared in the sky. He looked to the left as he flew towards the castle and could see the pack of wolves all lying on the ground dead. Other small glowing lights were raising up towards the larger lights in the sky. He looked down and could see these smaller lights coming out of the ground, coming out of the graves of the orders victims, these lights were the soul's of the victims returning to the original hosts within there proper worlds. What he could see ahead of him made his blood boil. His Apprentice, hovering above the castle slowly making his way up towards one of the lights in the sky.

As Macbeth passed through, the light's in the sky vanished leaving only the fire to bright the sky. Nightmare stopped and just hovered for a few moment's, looking around, taking it all in, all the work the order had done was ruins. He closed his eyes as he knew the end was near.

There was one final light in the sky, one final gate back to the real world.

The End.

So there you have it, that's the story of the demise of the order and the demise of Nightmare.
You can see what I turned to the drink.
