Any moves left? - Doctor Louis D'Ville - 11-04-2014

The Doctors office is dark. Only the flickers from the fireplace and an eerie red glow light the room. Evertrust and the Doctor sit across from each other at a small table with a near empty chess board between them. The few pieces left on the board are not of normal chess game pieces, but small figurines of Evertrust and the Doctor.

The Doctor rubs his chin, picks up one of his own pieces and and places it two spaces ahead and one to the left. Along with a few other little D'Villes on the board, they pin Evertrust in the corner. The Doctor smiles at his opponent.

"Checkmate, my friend."

" Not so fast! " That small, high pitched voice sounds familiar. Coming from far below the table it is the voice of the miniature Evertrust who occasionally emerges from Evertrust's foot. He's pointing his finger high in the air and looks very serious as he shouts.

" Feast, my pets! Feast! "

Thousands of Glowing Purple termites come rushing out of the small wound in Evertrust's foot and the miniature Evertrust glides on top of them like he's riding a wave off the tip of Evertrust's shoe. Mini Trust is now directing the squadron of ravenous soldiers up the table and they begin to devour the chess board within seconds. They're swarming in droves, eating the Evertrust and D'ville chess pieces and moving on to chew their way through the entire table. Evertrust looks down at his foot and sees that the mega termites have already eaten it away along with some of his other leg. The Doctor looks down to see some of his own legs have already been eaten away as well. The floors, walls, ceiling and even the air is being devoured as the mega mites begin crawling upward without the need of actually grabbing onto anything. Empty space and air seem to rend; blinding white lights hemorrhaging through the shavings as the feeding frenzy continues with the sounds of crunching increasing. Evertrust smiles as the entire room, or at least that which remains of it, takes on the glowing purple hue of the starving insects. His voice can barely be heard over the crunching.

" I imagine when taking into account that this is all a result of my foot, this may very well be my biggest 'kickout' to date. Not the most pleasant, however. "

The termites have begun eating their way through Evertrust's nose and he sneezes a mountain of blood right into D'ville's half eaten face.

Somewhere far away a young girl in her 20's awakens abruptly, covered in a cold sweat and breathing heavily as she looks around her room and finds comfort in the fact that it was all just a creepy dream.

But then…
But then… she looks up and asks aloud,
But then… she looks up and asks aloud, "Was that your dream, or mine?"

"It was mine,"
the voice of a… chess piece in the corner? But which piece?
We may never know
because we don't hang out
in random girls' bedrooms
while they sleep.
