TheVine

[In pitch black.]

"Prime Time" The Vine: I can't die today.

[Suddenly a veil is pulled from Vine's head and straight in front of him, you can see three guys, big guys, dressed in suits holding guns to Vine's head. Vine's long blonde hair flows in the air, marred by blood soaked scars across his face.]

Man 1: Look you either tell me where she is - or I'll kill you. Get me?

"Prime Time" The Vine: Even if I knew, I wouldn't tell you.

Man 2: You've got ten seconds Vine. Ten seconds to tell us, or you're dead.

"Prime Time" The Vine: You see... [Splitting blood from his mouth] You've got ten seconds to make a decision. [The men look at each other quizzically] Either you put down these guns and let me go, or you are all going to die.

[The men laugh to themselves, Vine tries to pull out of the ropes strapped around his arms, around a flimsy wooden chair in the centre of a warehouse.]

Man 3: And how do you suppose you'll do that?

[An explosion shakes the warehouse as the men are blown from their feet. In an instant a red Ferrari drives through the warehouse and a man jumps out. He pulls a gun from his holster and repeatedly shoots the men on the floor. He looks up at Vine and takes his sunglasses off. It's Jimmy Anderson. You'll get to know him, and you probably won't like him.]

Jimmy Anderson: I'm always saving your ass.

[Silence. Jimmy stands there, while Vine appears agitated. They stare each other down.]

"Prime Time" The Vine: Get me out of here... NOW!

[Jimmy nonchalantly makes his way across the room, with a swagger. He reaches the chair and goes around the back to untie the ropes. He finally does it and Vine pulls up knocking the chair and Jimmy up in the process. Vine turns and laughs at Jimmy pulling himself back up to his feet.]

"Prime Time" The Vine: Do you need some help there, you ass?

[Jimmy laughs as he finally gets back on his feet. Both men walk towards the car, as suddenly shots start blazing in the scene. Vine and Jimmy run and jump into their seats. Jimmy is driving. Men start to rush towards the car, as Jimmy, tilts his head back and starts reversing. One shot goes straight through the screen and through the back, another hits the dashboard. Jimmy manages to get out of the warehouse and drives off. They get onto the highway, before being followed by two black mercedes. They twist and turn in and out of traffic.]

"Prime Time" The Vine: Get me down to the beach. We'll lose them down there, let me out at Palms.

[Jimmy finally makes it to the beach. For a split second they lose the tail, Vine opens his door and slides out, rolling into the sidewalk and hidden from view. Jimmy pulls over and slams the passenger door shut. He continues to drive off followed closely by three cars. Vine gets up once the cars have gone past and dusts himself off.]

"Prime Time" The Vine: That boy is going to get killed one of these days.

[Vine laughs and looks into the sky. The sunset is beautiful, divine. He crosses the road and heads for the beach, its deserted. He looks around and notices the camera following him. He turns to it and smiles. He's been waiting to do this for a while.]

"Prime Time" The Vine: Finally, I'm back. And it's about god damn time too. It's been two long years. You've been waiting for the return of the star, of the number one, of the man you just can't stop loving. When I first walked down a wrestling ramp 7 years ago I was young. You could see the fear in my eyes. My sweat was dripping, I couldn't see through my eyes, I was scared. I walked down that ramp, not knowing what was going to happen. It could have been over in 10 seconds, 2 minutes, 10 minutes, I always expected the worst. And guess what? I walked down that ramp and I heard you, MY FANS, cheering. The moment I looked around and I saw your faces, the cheers, the chants, "Prime Time" The Vine. At that point. It didn't matter anymore. I felt lost and finally I was home.

[Vine smiles to himself, knowing that the last two years have been some of the longest in his career. What most of you don't realise is that when you leave something that you love, it just leaves a hole. Vine admires the sunset on the beach. It's beautiful California, you know. He looks back into the camera lens.]

"Prime Time" The Vine: You know what? I lost that match, but at that point in time, it didn't matter at all. It all became easy after that - not saying that I haven't had to work day in day out to get here today, but it all came naturally to me. I've been in fights I knew I couldn't win, yet i won them. I've been in fights against 3 other guys just against me, and I've beaten them. It's not me thats beaten them, its you. It's every god damn fan out there that has cheered for me, that has loved me, that has supported me and by God for each and every single one of you, I have fought tooth and nail, to my last breath to win for you. You have made me who I am today and for that thank you. Thank you to all of you.

[Vine blows a kiss into the camera. He's somber, yet focused. The camera pans around Vine, as Vine clenches his fist and grits his teeth. He starts to shake his fists, in almost a trance-like state. There's that something in his eyes you can't put your finger on. Fire, or belief, it doesn't really matter. He's back.]

"Prime Time" The Vine: Why am I back? Why not just quit after leaving it all out on the table that one night in May 2012. Title on the line. 60 thousand people in Rio chanting my name as I stood up and I went toe to toe with the undefeated Eric Peters. He hit me, I hit him back harder. He tried to make me tap, so I pulled his ankle tighter. It was a war. Then at one moment, I was on the mat and the crowd started to softly chant. Vine, Vine, Vine. It hit me, like a beat of a drum, my heart beat to that noise. Eric went to the top rope. I couldn't move my arms, my legs, I was lost. The chant got louder. VINE, VINE, VINE. My fingers started twitching, I could breath again, and my knees shaking against the sound of the chants. I heard a gasp from the crowd - Eric took off. He hit the mat and I rolled away. He hurt himself. The chants back again, louder and LOUDER AND LOUDER. I pulled myself up with the last bit of life I had in me, Eric matched me, went for a clothesline, I ducked, he came back off the ropes. I kicked him, Sunset Slowdown and BOOM. Neck, up, down. VINE BOMB. Arm stretched, 1... 2... 3.

[As Vine delivers the count, he beats the air to the count. Vine falls to the sand. A tear in his eye, he wipes it away with his forehand. He visibly sighs. Cars hover in the background, passing through the streets. The sun is nearly set. The beautiful red textures are gone. Vine pulls himself back up and dusts himself off. ]

"Prime Time" The Vine: I retired. I couldn't beat that moment. It was a culmination of 5 years. Ever since I've sat up in bed every night wondering why I did it. Why did I leave? I left because I could only fall. I had got there at last. The pinnacle of what I had become. And you know what? 2 years later it was time. There was a reason I couldn't sleep at night, there was a reason i couldn't think about anything else in the world. There was a reason I had to come back. It's all down to you. To my fans. The moment I step into that arena tomorrow night and I hear you chant my name, that is the reason. That is the reason why it's my DAMN NAME AND I'VE GOT TO KEEP IT.

[You can see the tension building up in Vine's face. You'll see him Monday night - and you'll see why. Fine.]
