I had just managed to get my bearings before I came into full view of this portal to the demonic realm. It had only brought the worst kinds of evil and monstrosities known to man. Few have braved the perils that lie within, with none ever managing to return. My extensive knowledge came from the way of traveling mistrals and such in the early years of my life. It was of myth to many of my kin, but to a few it was all too true. My late father once told me of an all powerful king who knew of the coming age. He spoke of destruction and a plague of death befalling many. He spoke of cities being decimated within a blink of the eye and demons spreading horrors beyond your wildest dreams.

This is what I was now facing with....

I knew I was more then able to fend for myself, but I still was still sightly fatigued from my battle of the stray wolf. I was only thankful he was not apart of a larger pack, for I may not have survived. As I continued to catch my breath, I looked towards the gate and a chill drove down my spine. It was not for the faint of heart to bask in this horrid scenery. I have been to these places once before, but only escorted by a young imperial thief. He had been searching for goods, when he crossed my path. I feared he may attempt to pillage me, but to my relief he merely wanted some aid. There had been a orphaned girl who had been drawn into the gate, unwillingly, and was in need of saving. I was but only a novice with my blade work at the time, but that was of no real concern for this thief. He assured me I would have at the very least a return back through the gate alive.

How I wish it were that easy....

I looked at the thief, with his bow in hand, and he motioned towards the gate. It took but mere seconds before we were standing at the threshold of sanity and oblivion. With a hurried thrust of my body, I injected myself into the glowing gate and instantly I was it the what could only be described as hell. I knew I was in for some dark times as this would never register as normal in any degree. All you could see for what seemed miles was fire, high rising towers and what looked like fangs shooting up from the ground. The ground also seemed to be littered with what appeared to be blood and human remains. Many of them had been scorched, while a few were maimed and torn apart in violent fashion. As I looked, I could only wonder what propelled me to help this thief. Even if it was to save a little girl, I felt no emotional attachment to endanger myself for the unknown. I reconsidered my original offer to help and turned towards the gate.

If only I knew I had no choice in the matter now...

I saw what used to be the portal back to my sad, yet perfectly safe reality gone. The location of the gate was still there, but all I saw was the ongoing stretch of endless death. The glowing gate had disappeared and I feared it was gone for good. As I turned back towards the thief, he began to explain the situation we were now in. It was apparent that in order to return home, we needed to close the gate that had been open between our two worlds. He gestured to a tower in the nearby distance to where we were to head. He also explained the little girl was almost definitely taken to the same tower. I was not one for questioning anything while in an unknown place, but I did fear for my life constantly. As the thief began to move towards the tower, I saw some type of small creature emerge from a small ground cave. It was not only one of these vile things, but what seemed like a dozen or so. I knew this would be a challenge, but I tried to think of something. I needed the motivation to proceed onward. If not for my own safe return, but for the little girl to see the light of a beautiful day once more. That was my goal and, with it carved into the forefront of my mind, I charged forward into the unknown.
