I'm bored so I thought I'd go ahead and start a discussion. How do you guys write the material you use in your RPs? As in do you write in browser/on phone/Word or whatever?

Myself, I prefer to write in browser, as I can sit down and write with some music in the other tab and talking to you fine fellows on Skype, although it's mainly because I can do the BBCode as I go along as well as preview it.

Just some mindless conversing while waiting for dem results.

I use both Word and my phone. You can tell which one I am using, base on grammar and spelling.

I typically work in Word and save sporadically. I do this to take breaks and whatnot if I need to.

Same here. I found out that pressing 'Save As Draft' and quickly pressing 'Preview Post' will take you to the preview but also save the draft. It's become very useful considering how much I like to preview my RPs lol

I handwrite them in a notebook sometimes, then move them into word and then onto the site... sometimes onto the site, then move them to word to save. Anyways, that's just a few of them.

The main reason most people use Word is for it to correct your grammar and spelling errors.

This brings up something that comes up occasionally and mostly matters to people who type directly into the website's message box... Don't forget sometimes the board will have a glitch or temporarily be down but you won't know it while you're typing, so when you hit "post" or "preview" or try to save it, you might lose everything to an error screen. Sometimes if you push back on your browser the content might still be there, but it depends on your settings and whether your browser tries to reload the last page fresh. This pretty much applies to any message board online. It's always risky to type directly into a message box online if you're typing something lengthy. At the very minimum, try to always copy your post before clicking the button! That way you can just paste it again if need be.

I had tried writing in Notepad before. Couldn't get the same oomph. I may try writing in Word next match, because it seems that being on the website while writing helps me to get more in character. Call me weird. If I decide to just stick with writing in-browser then I can get myself into the habit of copying my work while previewing/saving, don't particularly want to lose anything. Thanks for informing me ahead of time, Shane, before something happened.

Also for the spelling corrections, I use Chrome, so I'm somewhat covered there. Grammar wise I always try to get it right but the odd mistakes seem to slip through, and it's not like that sort of mistake will cost the match.

I use Word so that I can save all of the RP's on a thumb drive and reference later if need be without having to go to the boards. Plus, as Shane said, it saves me from losing the work if the message board decides to shit the bed without warning.

I write everything in my head at first. I sit down with a pack of cigarettes and coffee. I'm most at Starbucks chilling and thinking how it's going to play out. I have to be in a mind set. If I'm not in my mind set then I can't write shit. I take notes on how I want it to go and what not and of course I talk to my friends about it and they help me a lot. Most of the time I'm with my friends smoking a blunt or five and it just comes to me, then I go on note pad because I don't have word and write it out there. Then move it to here to do the coding and what not.

I type in browser because I have spell check on my browser so if I fuck up it tells me... but I also copy it all onto Text Edit as I type, just in case... Typing in the browser is great like SM said, it's easier to format and preview is a god send.. the amount of times I've fucked up the coding and preview has saved me! Smile

I type into LibreOffice. I have a separate file that has my coding that I use on a consistent basis, so it's as simple as copying and pasting the coding where it needs to go.

I used to write in the browser but I've had what Shane mentioned happen as well as accidentally closing my browser while switching tabs. I'd definitely not suggest writing in the browser. You just never know. At least if I'm in LibreOffice, if something happens and my power goes out, it gets backed up when the computer goes down. Unless it would completely crash on me, I stand very little chance of losing anything.

Plus, LibreOffice autosaves periodically if you've gone on to do something else for a few minutes.
