The sound of a Ducati 848 EVO purred through the hills, piercing the silent night, the rider and bike blending in with the dark sky. It was clear the rider knew these roads like the back of his hand. He took each corner like a pro, keeping the black gem in perfect balance even through the sharpest of the corners.
Slowly, the bike came to a stop in the one spot where the Shove It! Venue was the clearest. I stared at the venue, shaking my head softly before taking off again. The bike started up again and the rider took off, the moon reflecting gold eyes. I guided my bike around a sharp corner, almost laying it down.
My mind drifted back to the kiss with Supernova. The feel of his lips against mine, his scent overwhelming my very core, his warm body and that shock from his kiss made my heart beat pick up slightly. What was that man? That was the same man who fought against me for Ally’s heart and now…that?
I shook my head, taking another turn and pulling to the side of the road at the top of the hill, getting off the bike and pulling the helmet off before howling in anger, confusion and betrayal. Why did it have to be him? Why did it have to feel so fucking right?! I let out another pain filled howl before leaning against the tree and sliding down to the ground. Why did she have to turn her back on the only family my sister and I had left? Why did she have to leave us? WHY!?
I pulled my knees up, wrapping my arms around and resting my head on them, letting tears fall. It was utter bullshit…I wasn’t meant to feel anything, wasn’t meant to be weak…but…I was with him…HIM! The ex lover of my ex lover…the same man who threatened to send me to hell…why did it have to feel so right and be so wrong? Footsteps caught my attention but I didn’t move, just waited for the person who was foolish enough to cross my path.
“That was quite a howl.”
I looked up, seeing him leaning against my tree, “Nova.”
He smiled and extended his hand to me, I took it and yelped softly when he yanked me to my feet, quickly pinning me to the tree. Nova’s face fell slightly when his thumb brushed against my wet cheek. I pulled my head away, rubbing my eyes with the sleeve of my jacket and kind of wishing he didn’t find me.
“I thought you said…”
“I know what I said…”
I’m not going to lie, it was kind of awkward standing there with tear-stained cheeks and red rimmed eyes, looking more like a human than some sadistic, sociopathic vampire. Why did I have to like this guy? To be honest, I wasn’t even sure what drew me to him…his eyes burned like a warm fire, licking softly over fresh wood.
His scent was dark and light, an angel and a demon.
A gasp escaped my throat when Nova wrapped his arms around my waist, hugging me tightly to his warm, firm body. His hand touched the bit of my bare back and I felt shock-waves run up my spine, making me rest my head on his shoulder. My hands tangled in his shirt and I felt my knees give. Why was I so damn weak around him? We dropped to the ground and I shook, gripping his shirt even tighter and letting everything break. Nova held me even tighter, rocking slightly and repeating the same words over.
“Everything is going to be okay, Zak. Trust me on this, I understand more than you may realize.”
Nova pulled away slightly, his fingers lifting my head so that I could look at him, “Few can truly grasp what those cursed with the gift of eternal life go through. Few understand how to comfort those who know an infinite span of blissful pan and tragic wonder.”
I noticed his voice trail off slightly and I reached up, cupping his cheek softly and pressing my forehead against his.
“Why do I feel so weak around you?”
Nova smiled softly, his eyes locking with mine, “I feel just as weak around you.”
I smiled, my lips ghosting against his in a gentle kiss. He smiled again and pushed me back against the tree, his lips against mine. I’m not entirely sure why, but I submitted to his kiss, allowing him control in an area where I hated losing control.
We sat there for a few minutes before I placed my hand on his chest, pushing him back and standing, this time pulling him up. I walked over to my bike and threw my helmet at him.
“Get on.”
Nova pulled on the helmet and straddled the bike behind me, his arms snaking around my waist as I whipped the bike around, taking off down the hill. The wind stabbed at my face but I really didn’t care, I was more distracted by Nova’s warmth against my back and his hands gripping my waist. Luckily, I knew the people who took care of Chateau Bonaguil and they didn’t think twice about me tearing into the driveway.
“My lord?”
Nova took off the helmet, clearly confused at the title. I would have to explain that later.
“Where is the ring?”
“Center courtyard, my lord.”
I nodded and took Nova’s hand pulling him into the chateau, “I want the electrified cage lowered and turned on.”
Four members of the chateau’s staff took off running as Nova and I walked into the courtyard.
“Zak, why did-“
“Later.”
I smiled, cupping his face and kissing him hard and passionately before I climbed into the ring, looking up as the cage lowered and I heard the cracking of electricity.
“Are you sure about this, my Lord?”
I simply nodded and gripped the cage, shivering softly as the shocks that rippled down my spine. It didn’t hurt but it didn’t feel as comfortable as the shocks I got from Nova. I sighed and smiled, my eyes locking with Nova’s before I stepped away, letting go of the cage and pulling off my jacket and shirts.
“Zak!”
A small smile at Nova and I fell back against the cage, my eyes closing and enjoying the massage. Some would think I was conditioning my body for the pain of tomorrow but really, I wasn’t. Just simply showing that it wouldn't bug me.
“Is this at its strongest level?”
The man using the controls shook his head, “No…would you like-“
“As high as it can go.”
I didn’t move, just stayed against the cage. My flesh and muscles twitching at the increasing power but it still didn’t hurt. If a living human were to touch this, I have a feeling they would be killed within minutes.
“My Lord?”
My eyes opened and I looked down at the human, who slowly made his way to the cage, “I’m fine.”
He nodded and stepped back, his eyes darting between me and Nova.
“I’m fine, Nova. Stop worrying, it’s distracting.”
I gripped the cage, pulling myself up and walking over to the cage door, waiting for them to unlock it. I heard the cage power down and looked at the man who had the keys. The minute the door opened, Nova was in front of me, his hand on my shoulder as he looked at the red burn marks on my tattooed back.
“You’re a fool.”
“An undead fool. Let’s go home, love. It seems as though I have a secret to tell.”
Nova handed me my shirt and nodded, looking a little confused at the way the chateau staff followed a simply wave of my hand and called me Lord.
“Is it a vampire thing?”
I shook my head, taking his hand and slowly walking the halls, “This, no. This is because of my family. You should see it when Micah feels like showing, you think this is bad? Ha! She’s worse.”
“Will the Lady be here for the show?”
I looked back at the young woman who stood a little ways from us, her head bowed, “Yes…she’s performing.”
“I will make sure everything is perfect, my Lord.”
Another simple wave and she took off. I looked at Nova, “What?”
“Lord…Lady…what the hell are you?”
I smirked and put my hands in my pockets, looking out the window, “A vampire with a very dark past but that is just a past, not the present or future. Now, where would we find larger game? Would love to hunt before the match…unless you want to come with me into the city and you show me just what you can do with a human.”
Nova smiled at me softly and followed me off into the dark woods.
