The scene opens up to a little arrow at a main page of a DVD screen and it clicks on chapters. Then it clicks on chapter 1 "How I got into the business" the XWF and then a warning label.
Movie guy voice- Warning, the following film may be unsuitable for some younger audiences. Viewer discretion is adviced.
The black screen fades away to heavy metal blaring in the back ground and it is showing all sorts of highlights of Matt Lennox in various wrestling promotions. As the highlights are being played the music fades a little and Matt begins speaking.
Matt- When I was a child, all I wanted to do was wrestle. I grew up watching people like Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Mick Foley and Stone Cold. I saw many things that younger generations wish they could have saw. I saw the Montreal Screw Job, I saw Shawn Michaels come down from the rafters, I watched Undertaker throw Mankind off the hell in a cell.
The camera then comes in to Matt sitting in a dark room with the XWF logo behind him.
Matt- People always as me, what made me want to wrestle? And how did I get into the business? The first time I remember wanting to become a professional wrestler was in 1996. I was watching WrestleMania with my father and uncle and Bret Hart was taking on Shawn Michaels. I remember it being the longest match ever, it went past the 60 minute time limit. To me that was the most incredible match I had ever seen and from then on all I ever wanted to be was a wrestler.
As Matt is talking the camera pans to pictures from when he was younger and little video clips of him wrestling with his friends in his backyard.
Matt- Me and my friends when I got a little older built a piece of shit ring in my back yard. If you looked at it you would wonder how we survived wrestling on that thing. I remember once I slammed my buddy Rick and the ring actually ripped. Both of us went through the ring and I ended up breaking a couple of his ribs, and like any good mother would do. My mom of course took down the ring. So after the ring incident me and my friends were forced to get jobs and with the money we all saved up money and we drove to DC and went to see SummerSlam 2005.
The camera begins showing highlights of SummerSlam 2005 including the main event Shawn Michaels vs. Hulk Hogan.
Matt- That match card was incredible. We got to see the Heart Break Kid, The Hulkster, Chris Benoit and many others. We were in awe because we had never gotten to see wrestling in person besides independent shows in a couple armory's and school gyms. That night we waited in the cold for probably two hours, Hulk Hogan was walking to his card and we were trying to get his autograph. He looks over at us from his card and gives us the finger. We were beyond pissed and John Cena had taken noticed of what happened and he actually walked up to us and signed all are stuff and we even got a picture with the guy.
The camera pans to a picture of John Cena with Matt and his friends.
Matt- I told John about how I had wanted to be a professional wrestler and he gave me some good pointers. He told me to never give up and to save up as much money as I could to go to wrestling school. He told me to do it while I was young. I took his advice and I worked my ass off and I eventually saved up enough money to go to Gillberg's professional wrestling academy in Maryland in 2010 when it first opened. There I learned everything I had to know about wrestling. People look at Gillberg and think he is a joke because of his dumb gimmick he had in WWE with that whole angle with The Rock. He is really an awesome down to earth man who really knows a lot about the business and taught me a lot about not only wrestling but about life.
The camera shows Matt in a video practicing wrestling at Gillberg's school.
Matt- Gillberg knew a lot of independent promoters and I actually got my first gig on Maryland Championship Wrestling. I was helping set up the ring and I got to have a match on the lower card against another guy that was in my class.
The camera then shows clips of the match Matt had wrestled in MCW.
Matt- We weren't given a lot of ring time but I felt that we put on a good match. The crowd loved us just because we were local guys but I felt I needed to give them more of a reason to like us. So after a couple shows we did facing each other, me and this guy decided to throw in a little hardcore elements. We would go out there and beat the hell out of each other. Blood would be dripping from our heads, I remember one time a little girl was crying in the front row looking at me all bloodied up.
The camera then pans to the wrestler that Matt used to face.
Wrestler- Matt was always coming up with these insane ideas and I would just look at him like he was fucking crazy. One time he had an idea for me to give him a powerbomb off the top ropes through a table onto the concrete. I told him I couldn't do that to him, but he insisted I did. The minute I hit him with that powerbomb I could tell he was knocked out.
The camera pans to raw fan footage of Matt getting powerbombed through the table on the concrete floor and him being checked by MCW medics.
Wrestler- He was out for probably 5 minutes and when he got up the medics told him to go to the back. He told them no he had to finish the match for the fans. At that moment I knew Matt Lennox was going to go further than anyone in the wrestling business. So as soon as he got back in the ring he whispered to me to nail him with my finisher through another table. I couldn't believe he wanted me to do this so I said no. As soon as I said no he jabbed me in the jaw hard knocking me back and he told me he wasn't fucking kidding. So I got up and I started beating the hell out of him. I set up the table in the ring and I did my version of DDP's diamond cutter through the table and beat him.
The camera pans to Matt.
Matt- That match got noticed by a lot of people. So many people had raw footage of me getting destroyed in that match. You would have thought that the wrestling companies wanted him instead of me. But no it was the other way around! I was getting calls from all sorts of promoters. Every promotion except the big three, WWE, TNA, and XWF. I chose to stick it out in MCW for a while because I was offered a decent contract with the company after my match and I felt the MCW fans deserved it. From that point there, it all went up hill. A few months into my MCW career I got my first shot at the MCW Rage TV Championship against Christian York.
The camera then pans to the end of Matt's match where he was winning the MCW Rage TV title. Christian York had him beat and was going for the pin but Matt kicked out and the crowd really started getting behind Matt. York then lifted up Matt and was going for a pile driver but Matt flipped York out of it. Matt then locked in sharpshooter and York was forced to tap. Matt started celebrating while the crowd was going completely insane. The camera then faded out with Matt standing on top the ring entrance holding the title. The camera then panned back to Matt sitting in the room.
Matt- That moment for me was probably one of the greatest accomplishments of my life. Not only did I win my first title in professional wrestling but I got it using the finisher of one of my favorite wrestlers Bret Hart.
Interviewer- What did you do when you got backstage?
Matt- I cried. I fell to my knees and I cried. Everyone was around me congratulating me and patting me on the back. But all I could do was weep. I know that isn't the most manly thing to do but I couldn't help it. It was so overwhelming and I was looking back at my life and what I had done to get into wrestling and it finally paid off. Christian York came up to me and gave me a hug and he told me that it was an honor to have lost it to such a worthy opponent. After that I went home and my wife Laura had taken a picture of me asleep in my recliner and I still had the belt around my shoulder. I treated that thing like I just won the Super Bowl.
The camera pans to the picture of Matt sleeping with the belt in his chair.
Matt- After that, I was officially top card material.
The camera fades out.
