Ronnie O'Rourke Part 3
Continued from Madness

The Job

The scene opens up on a cool summers evening, the sun is setting over London’s east end. The street we can see is a quiet side street with minimal lighting. There is a car parked on the side of the road half mounting the pathway with small amounts of smoke flowing out of the open passenger side window. Inside the car Craig O’Rourke has just lit up a cigarette and is sat back in the passenger side seat relaxing while David Grimshaw is who is sat in the driver’s seat flicks through the radio stations, finally settling for Capital FM when he finally hears a song he likes. Grimshaw sits back in his seat and lights up a cigarette of his own. The two men are now just sitting listening to music and waiting.

Meanwhile...

Ronnie O’Rourke and Jim Danielson are sat in the back of a limousine en route to pick up their customer Dimitri Nikolovachech from outside the Hilton Hotel in Canary Wharf. They currently are passing through the Blackwall Tunnel which runs almost directly under the O2 Arena. The sit in silence with the anticipation of soon being free pulsating through their body like an excited child whose mama has just told them they will be going to Disneyland for Christmas. They still had important work to do though, this meeting and the collection needed to go well without a hitch.

Ronnie is thinking that he hopes he made the right decision leaving Craig with David to keep an eye on the collection take place, if anything ever happened to his boy he couldn’t forgive himself. They should be ok though, nobody knows they are there they just need to watch Dimitri’s men enter and then watch them leave again, what could possibly go wrong?

The limousine pulls up outside the Hilton, Canary Wharf and Dimitri approaches from inside the lobby, Jim opens up the door to the limo so there customer can get in and find a seat. Ronnie introduces Dimitri to Jim and vice versa, Dimitri takes a seat opposite as Ronnie opens the mini-bar.

Ronnie: Drink for the road?

Dimitri:Oh yes please Mr O’Rourke.

Ronnie: There is no need for this Mr O’Rourke business, just call me Ronnie.

Dimitri: Ok Mr Ronnie.

Ronnie pours out three glasses of Whisky and passes one to Dimitri and one to Jim. They all take a sip as the limousine continues on towards the destination of their meal, The Dorchester. The Dorchester is one of the most expensive fine dining restaurants in London and Ronnie had spared no expense to ensure his customer will be satisfied with the business they are providing, plus when he was booking the table he was already thinking like he had the bottomless flow of money which will come his way once this dinner is finished.

Sometime Later...

Driving there van through the London street Ivan Swanzig and Petr Karzitine are following the directions given to them from their boss, Dimitri Nikolovachech. Ivan is behind the wheel and Petr is sat in the passenger’s seat keeping his eye half on the satellite navigation system and half on the passing side streets and buildings.

Ivan and Petr’s task is a simple one but also may be the most dangerous with the highest chance of being problems. Dimitri is probably sat in some nice restaurant enjoying the finer things in life all while his young team are doing the dirty work. Dont get them wrong they do not begrudge Dimitri the privileges he received, he has worked had to get to where he is and his promise of making Petr and Ivan disgustingly rich is an added bonus.

Dimitri and his teams plan are simple, purchase the weapons from Dimitri’s contact Ronnie O’Rourke and then sell them on for a slight profit. At least that is what they have told Ronnie that they intended to use the merchandise for. In reality it’s for something at lot bigger, a lot more catastrophic, something they had been planning for many years and something Ronnie would not want to be associated with if he would have known.

Ivan turns the steering wheel down a side street on Petr’s command. It is almost dark now and the minimal street lighting down this side ally made it difficult to spot the location they were looking for. They knew it was a garage lock up they were searching for but in a dark side street full of garage lock ups determine the correct one was proving to be difficult. Passing a couple of parked cars they reach the end of the street with still no luck. Ivan spins the car around and heads slowly back down the street, suddenly Petr shouts out.

Petr: A white door!!!

Petr had remembered some further instructions from Dimitri that the lock up that they required had a white shutter door. All other lock ups seemed to have darker doors, maybe a brown colour. it is hard to tell in the light. They continued slowly down the road again looking for the white door.

Petr: There it is, it must be it there are no more doors of that colour here.

Meanwhile...

“Look, is this our guys?” Craig said to David as they see a transit van turn into the road that they are parked. The van slowly makes it way down the street towards them, Craig exchanges his glances between the Van and there lock up. The van continues to slowly make its way down the street, right past the lock up and then past Craig and David’s car.

David Hmmm, I guess not. They should be due any minute though. Did your dad say what they would be travelling in?

Craig: Just that it will be a van of some sort. I’m guessing it will have a tail lift on it as there is no way there handballing that entire pallet onto the back.

David: Yeah, I would hope so anyway because I’m not going to help them load it all up.

The two boys laugh before they get distracted by headlights coming up the road from behind them. Both of the men look over their shoulders towards the approaching van as it passes by them. The see the red brake light come on as the van begins to slow and slightly turns in towards the lock up.

A guy jumps out and approaches the roller door before looking left and right to make sure nobody is watching. Once he sees the coast is clear he lifts p the roller door and the van disappears inside and out of sight followed by the roller door shutting again. David looks over towards Craig.

David: Did you see a tail lift on the back of that van?

Craig: Nope.

David: Well somebody has a lot of hard work to do then.

Both men laugh as they sit back relaxed in their seats waiting for the collection to be completed, it could be a long night. Craig pulls his phone out of his pocket and begins to text his dad.

Meanwhile...

Ronnie O’Rourke’s mobile phone begins to vibrate in his jacket pocket. He reaches in and pulls the handset out slightly so he can just read what was on the screen. Sitting across the table was Dimitri and Jim was sat to his right. Ronnie drops his phone back into his pocket and continues his conversation with Dimitri. They gentlemen had been going over business strategies and possible future endeavours together. This was obviously all talk on the behalf of Ronnie seeing that as soon as he gets Dimitri’s money he is out of here without a care in the world. Jim however seems to be listening a bit more intently to what Dimitri has to say. For Jim the possibility of further business ventures excited him, he didn’t want to retire, disappear into the middle of god knows where. He wasn’t ready for that. He still had more work in him and more money to make. Ronnie wouldn’t begrudge Jim from deciding to partner up with Dimitri if the opportunity was there, he was getting out of the game and as long as Jim if he ever got in any kind of trouble kept Ronnie’s name out of it which Ronnie was sure his friend would, there would be no problem.

A few moments later Dimitri’s phone vibrates on the table, he excuses himself and leaves to take the call. Ronnie and Jim talk between each other for a few minutes waiting for Dimitri’s return.

Ronnie: You're seriously thinking of going into business with this man when we are all done with this?

Jim: Yeah, why not, I can't give this all up. I'll get bored.

The pair continue to talk until Dimitri finally returns and confirms the collection as taken place. The men shake hands and continue there meal with Ronnie ordering an expensive bottle of champagne to celebrate a successful deal completed.

Meanwhile...

Craig and David have headed back into the location that the collection had taken place. They turn on the lights and see that the pallet remains in the centre of the room. Craig walks over and peers inside to confirm the product had been collected. It had and he chuckled quietly to himself.

Craig: I guess they didn't have a tail lift then. No wonder it took them so long to get it loaded.

David points towards the far side of the room.

David: Or they used the fork-lift. You muppet!!

David laughs as Craig once again looks a little embarrassed.

Craig: Yeah, I guess so.

The two men leave again shutting off the lights to the old damp building and closing the door locking up behind them. This time tomorrow this building will be back to being unused and derelict but Craig, David, Jim and Ronnie will not give it a second thought as they will be rich, they will be free.
