Memory is strange thing.

At at a cellular and chemical level, we have a deep understanding - formation, recollection, suppression - all these are well-studied topics, with innumerable books and academic papers published about them.

At a practical, human level, we're a little more in the dark.

Why do we recall seemingly inconsequential details with such clarity - Does it really matter that the man in front of you at the grocery store was wearing mismatched socks? (Red and black, for those who are interested.)

Why can we quote entire scenes of dialogue from a movie we watched as a teenager but can't recall the name of our next door neighbour? (Dave and Gina, by the way)

Perhaps most interestingly, why do some memories physically impact us?

Catching a glimpse of an old lover with their new beau causes your chest to tightens, as you flashback to a different time, one were you were happy and laughing, before it all went wrong.

Bumping into that old classmate who made your life hell as an awkward teen makes you sweat, nervous at the thought of some fresh verbal abuse.

Remembering the day you said goodbye to your sister for the last time, as she shouldered her duffel bag and got on that plane, brings a tear to your eye.

Scientists have theories on this but the explanation has, thus far, eluded them.

Fortunately for us, deep scientific inquiry isn't required to explain the physical manifestation of this memory.

Evan Jackson is a name from the past, a name made (in)famous in long-shuttered companies, a name that appeared annually in the epic GTT tournaments way back when.

Now that name has returned, bringing the man himself with it.

Slightly thicker.

Significantly older.

Extremely bad-intentioned.

Yet unequivocally, still Evan Jackson.

This return isn't a nostalgic last ride or a desperate money-grab. He's not un-retiring, since he never retired in the first place.

No, it's driven by something else, something simple and something that we can all understand. A desire to do the right thing.

You see, there's a right way and a wrong way to operate in this business, and to the mind of Evan Jackson, the right way has been forgotten.

Back in his heyday, he fought every type of competitor, from cult leaders to martial artists to luchadors to anarchists.

He respected every one of them.

These men and women represented the core of what the business meant, fighting hard and recognising that win or lose, the person who stood across from you in the ring deserved kudos.

Whether you were at the top of the card or the bottom, it was accepted that just by stepping between those ropes, you had sacrificed and battled to be there.

It made him proud to be involved.

These days, it seems that the ethos that was there has been washed away, taken over by a culture of becoming a star no matter what.

There's no respect; the ones at the top will do anything they can to keep their position there and those breaking through are basically expendable.

So he decided to come back.

To make a return to the profession that had brought him everything he has, to shake it up and bring the right way back, starting July 15.

A memory that will be felt physically by each and every member of the XWF roster, in the exact same way.

After all, everybody knows what a punch to the face feels like.
