Parte 2

Shades was a street tough, like Hanari. Even at 10 years old, he had seen and done so much. Bouncing from home to home in his early life because his mother could not keep a house, living with family members while she worked 4 jobs (all of which combined didn't even pay minimum wage in the United States for one job), and had a lot of time to hang out with the Lone Riders. JS, as they called themselves. Some of them even found themselves behind bars at a young age, for a night here and there, for petty offenses.

All of the cartoons seemed old, but Hanari was okay with it. To him, everything was old. He first remembered seeing Shades in Luke Cage, Hero for Hire #1 which was an episode from 1972. In that episode Shades and Comanche were arrested and sent to Seagate where Lucas was already imprisoned.

This reminded him of Pedro and Diego, who were always in and out of the local police station for things. He remembered one time they were brought in by the local police for convincing an old woman that he shoes were untied (she was wearing sandals) so they could take money from her purse. The woman remembered their faces, identified them, and they were kept there until their parents came to pick them up. Sebastián was already there for punching his father, who was an alcoholic.

In the episode they attempted to manipulate Lucas into starting a prison riot, but Cage didn’t fall for it. After Lucas escaped, the guard responsible for Lucas’ mishap, Rackham, took his frustration out on the prisoners, especially the Black ones.

Hanari felt this too. They often saw the way the hispanic and white people who did inhabit the Dominican treated the black population, many of whom came over from Haiti. Hanari and his posse hated this. People were people. Skin color didn't make them bad or good, although the Hatian immigrants DID often cause more of a ruckus. Either way, when Hanari witnessed this, he tried to squash it whenever he could and bloodied a lot of noses because of it.

Hanari remembered one time that they, JS, tracked down a racist cop, the same way that Shades and his group did in Cage. They ended up being in the wrong place at the wrong time, and the man's house went up in flames. The group was blamed for it, even though they were still on their way there when it happened.

Hanari understood, even from a young age, that sometimes you had to be bad in order to be good. Everything he did, he did for the betterment, in his eyes, of his neighborhood, even though to many his actions were looked at as bad, malicious, even evil.

Like clockwork, when Hanari heard his family wake up, he quickly shut the TV off and got to his chores. They always knew he hadn't started them, but rarely mentioned it.

Everyday Hanari tried to live the way he saw on TV. It was all that he could do. The people around him weren't good examples, so he tried to live through the hero's he saw on TV.

Little did he know that 20 years later, he would be one of those heros.

TO BE CONTINUED

"Senior Mind, chu must be as bad a' readin' people than Hanari is at talkin' Inglés well. Wha' eva happen to doin' homework, hermano? Chu don't know that madres españolas are tough on they kids to toughin' dem up? Oy vey, Chico. Hanari thought chu be smart behin' all dat muscle. Chu proved tha firs' statement chu make to be truth, chu really don't know Hanari. Or spanish people. Or really, anything. Hanari has no disapoint his madre, no, and this es no pity party. Does you see a piñata? Chu don't. So no party here, mang.

Chu know nothin' about struggle, mang. What chu describe to tha world was a typical family problem. If anythang mang it soun like chu need tha kleenex, not Hanari. What Hanari has gon thru, only make him stronger, sí. If eva Hanari was prepared to take a title, tis now. Hanari ain't no rookie, mang. Hanari es the mos' polished hijo de puta chu ever come across, mang. Chu say some interesting things about Hanari. Chu say Hanari need to learn how to lose. ¿Por qué? Why does Hanari need to learn how to lose? All Hanari has eva done es win, es make bad situations betta. Hanari es a winner, mang, an if chu want to dig into Hanari personal life, chu should really do some fact checkin' first, chico. Hanari es so glad that chu been thru the ringer, and chu had to fight ya way to where you es at now. So proud of chu, Hanari is. What chu meant to say was that chu never caught that break, neva had that signature opportunity, mang, and neva had the belief that chu could be somethin' major, mang. Hanari es confident. If Hanari lose, he lose, but he expect to win, every time. Hanari has made a life out of winning an' chu jus' happen to be da big break Hanari need. The boss at tha end of level uno, mang. There es so much more for Hanari to accomplish, but it start wit cho ass. Hanari es gon' break ya arm in that ring, and jus' like that, Hanari become a household name.

Hanari feel bad about cho angel baby, mang, he do. Chor wife soun' like she a figher too, mang. BUT, an' call Hanari a culo here, but Hanari would not have left. No, Hanari woul' have had her taken care of because Hanari has the money, the respect, an' tha connections to do so. Hanari always see somethin' thru to the finish, mang. Nothing stand in Hanari way. Hanari es going to win the TV title in his second match eva mang, NOT his second match BACK. That be the difference between punta's like chu and hombres like me.

Learn to think about others hermano? What chu think Hanari has done? Set up family to not be homeless, brought income to mi neighborhood, and put tha Dominican on tha map. Hanari entire life has been dedicate to helping others, by whateva means. Now, it is finally time to start thinking about Hanari and Hanari alone. There es nothin' chu can teach Hanari that he already don't know, mang. Hanari has learned his lesson's in life on his own, and now he es going to break tha streak, beat tha hombre everyone seem to fear, and win a title, ON HIS OWN.

Cha title reign ends at 128 days hermano, an' as far as Hanari es concern, there es nothin' chu can do about it. Punta Cana Kick, Viva La Republic, game ova.

Oh cha, an that woman chu put on that screen, es that what chicas in Australia look like? Jesus señor dios, Hanari thinks chu have bigger tits mang! She built like a UPS package, mang! Chu need a supple, curvy woman, mang.

Oy! Chico! Now THAT a señora! Hanari need to go shower!

Hanari fixes his cuff links, unbuttons his top button, exposing his chest and a gold chain with the Dominican Flag hanging as the pendant. He smiles a big, white toothed smile before saying "hasta mañana"
