My thought was an annual update. I'll have to discuss it with Shane and figure something out.

Yeah it will be a while before we do this again. It's way different than other rankings and requires a lot of difficult comparisons that take several eras into account. As time goes by it gets harder and harder to get listed at all, or bumped higher, because the names already on it have earned those spots even if they aren't active anymore or haven't been seen in years. Eventually we'll probably get to a point where like, one or two names are added every few years because for every name added, somebody who was deserving gets bumped entirely off the list. It will never go beyond 50.

You and I have discussed this a bit before, but I think for this reason it makes sense to create a "Hall of Fame" type thing that's unranked, where people from the Top 50 list "graduate" in a way to that different category. For instance, it seems really unlikely that Steve Jason ever comes off the top spot on the 50 list... so why not move him into a HoF category instead and use the room for newer guys that come up? The longer the XWF exists, the less possible it really is to have a succinct Top 50, since things change over time. Even just the differences between the way Doc D'Ville and Steve Jason do things is pretty stark, and that's number one and number two right there.

There already is a hall of fame floating around somewhere. I'm just not sure where it is. Maybe Raven has the link. The HOF and Top 50 were individual from each other in that somebody could end up on the HOF even if they weren't in the TOP 50, and vice versa. We definitely should revive the HOF and add some names to that, sometime this year. As for taking high ranking Top 50 members out of the Top 50 just because they're not new, I'm not really a fan of that idea but occasionally we can drop people off who were toward the bottom anyway. If we start archiving names into the HOF because they're older names, it's no longer a Top 50 of all time but instead a much easier list to break into of the Top 50 names of the past few years. We'd basically have to eliminate a Top 50 and come up with a whole new name/concept that still is uniquely different than the standard HOF.

These are all things we can all discuss sometime in the near future among staff and possibly some other influential names if they want to be involved in the talks, and I'm willing to try and come to an arrangement that makes the most people happy if possible.

I get your point. To me the Top 50 has always been representative of more of the"modern" era, I guess you'd say, and a bit of a living document.

Some of the really old, really good names (again using SJ here as my mental example) are never going to be topped, IMO, and not only that they are never going to be around again. Whereas a guy like Raven or Blizzard, thy actively still exist and are adding to their legacies or potentially adding to them anyway.

I think th whole thing is pretty complicated which is why obviously it taks a huge discussion to really do anything with it.
