MASTERMIND - AGED 10

It is moments after Mastermind saw his mother die, as the heart monitor sounds it's bad news, the Doctors and Nurses are trying everything to revive his mother.

"Sir, you need to get your son out of here please."

FATHER: "I'm trying to. 'M' come on please."

His father yanks his son's arm, and pulls him out of the room, he plonks him down in the foyer, with many people rushing around trying to sort out the situation.

"But Dad, I want Mum."

FATHER: "I know you do Son, but they're trying everything they can do."

"Why her, why my mum, why? Why? Why?"

FATHER: "I don't know Son, that's the way life goes some times."

His father hugged Mastermind, but in the end they just stood there, while the Doctors and Nurses couldn't do anything about the situation.

A FEW DAYS LATER

The 10 Year Mastermind had locked himself in his room, during the first few days after his mother was pronounced dead. As try as he might, his father couldn't get him to come out.

He just sat there staring at the mirror.

He just sat there feeling angry over losing his mother.

He just sat there trying to make sense of things.

He just sat there.

Suddenly after four days sitting in the same spot he heard a voice.

"What are you looking at?"

Mastermind blinked. He looked at the mirror again. His reflection spoke again.

"That's right I'm talking to you. What are you looking at?"

"This isn't happening."

"I'm afraid it is happening egg."

"I think I'm going crazy?"

"At least we can agree on that part."

"What do you want?"

"What do you want?"

"I asked first."

"Isn't it obvious. Our mother died. You're angry, I'm angry, we need a place to direct our anger."

"That's drastic."

"is it drastic egg? How are you feeling right now then?

"Angry and pissed off."

Suddenly there was a knock on his room door.

"Is everything okay in there Son?"

Mastermind looked away from the mirror to the door.

"I'm fine."

"Do you want to talk about it, I haven't seen you in a few days."

"I said I'm fine Dad. Leave me alone."

"Alright. But your mother's funeral is tomorrow."

"Come get me tomorrow."

Mastermind heard his father walk away from the door. He looked back at the mirror but the person looking back at him, was himself, and not his other self. His angry self. He must have been hallucinating. He laid back on his bed, and curled up into a ball.

AFTER THE FUNERAL

Mastermind came storming into the house after watching his Mother get laid to rest, and with tears rolling down his face, he went straight to his room. His father watching on helplessly. His Father's mother, Mastermind's grandmother, just put a hand on his shoulder.

"Let him deal with it in his own way."

Mastermind slammed the door to his room, and started taking off his good clothes. He wiped the tears from his face, and sat back down on the edge of the bed. He looked back at the mirror.

"I told you we need a way to direct our anger."

Mastermind blinked several times. He looked back at the mirror and saw a different reflection. It was the one he spoke to yesterday.

"Yes I'm back, and no you're not hallucinating."

"Where did you go?"

"Away but now I'm back. Do you want me to go away again?"

Mastermind felt something was wrong, but he was too angry to listen to his gut.

"What are you suggesting that I do?"

"We do."

"What are you suggesting that we do then?"

"Throw our anger at our father."

Mastermind thought for a moment, his gut was saying no. But he had been angry at him for over a week.

"How do we do that?"

"Come closer and I'll tell you."

Mastermind got off of the bed, and got closer to the mirror. Suddenly his reflection started laughing. The laughter echoed through his head, and he felt like he was being pulled in all directions. He felt light headed. One minute he was on the outside of the mirror and the next minute he found himself on the inside of the mirror looking into his room.

The angry Mastermind was looking back at him laughing.

"What the hell? What's happening?"

"You are not strong enough to keep being angry at our father. Whereas I am. I can do damage to him and the world."

"But i don't want that."

"Exactly my point."

The Evil Mastermind waved his hand across the face of the Mirror, and his good reflection disappeared.

He turned towards the door, and with an evil look in eye, headed for it.
