Ok... But take for example me calling our Erik Black multipuk times like we are having a match, even though we aren't. I didn't ask permission because...

I'M NOT ACTUALLY USING HIS CHARACTER IN ANY WAY.

I'm just talking about him. It's the same thing here. You could have accepted and joined. Declined and whined in character like you did, or choose to completely ignore it.

I think it would be a problem if they were actually trying to force you into their group. Using your character in rps or on the boards and pretty much hijacking your shit, but that's not the case here, and I fail to see what the fuss is about.
